We are located on the edge of the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, which is famous for having an extremely high population of big trophy Black Bears. Our BMA (bear management area) is approximately 300 square km (187 sq. miles) and consists of perfect terrain for hunting and producing the biggest Black Bears in Ontario. We have 12 bait stations, strategically placed about one mile apart. All bait stations are in clearings with thick bush nearby. Hunters get to their stations via car or truck. Bait stations are within 1/4 and 1/2 mile walk from the vehicle parking spots.
Black Bears in our area average about 150 pounds but range over the 400-pound mark. The biggest bear taken since we have owned the camp was 500 pounds. The success rate each year ranges from 75% to 100% depending on the weather. Most of our hunters see multiple bears and enjoy the ability to pass on smaller bears and wait for a big trophy to come into range. The reason for this extremely high success is we only take a limited number of hunters per year. |
